Delhi is the national capital of the largest and one of the most vibrant democracies in the world, and also it is one of the most rapidly expanding economies. A city of hopes and promises for the common man – leading to a common belief that whatever was not possible at their local place could be achieved at Delhi – a trust that needs to be upheld. The city has its own share of problems too-partly inherent and partly due to a large number of immigrations of people from other states-leading to very high population density of over 9000 persons/sq. km (93 per cent urban) compared to the national average of about 350 persons/sq. km (25 per cent urban). This extra share of population load puts additional pressure on all the infrastructure facilities that are already overstretched to their extreme. There is a lot of stress on the public facilities in Delhi – especially on the Health sector. Medical care and treatment cannot be denied to a fellow countryman on any ground.
With rapid urbanization and influx of population into slums and shanty habitations, a large chunk of poor population has moved into environmentally deprived urban areas which are overcrowded, have no access to safe water, sanitation, and safe accommodation, and often lack access to basic services.
The home is in need of financial assistance to provide medical assistance to approximately 65 inmates (treatment in hospital if they need special treatment, surgery etc.) The patients are regularly examined by well qualified doctors and timely medicine, clinical care is taken care of by trained medical personnel’s. Since the patients are on regular medication and hence, we have to buy medicine for them which takes a huge amount.
Funds are needed- The home is in dire need of funds to meet the daily expenditure which comes to a big amount. We do not get regular funds or donations. Therefore at times it becomes difficult to manage the daily expenses.
Visiting People on Streets and at Railway stations- We also visit people on streets and railway platforms, at New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Nizamuddin Railway stations. Since Delhi is a Metropolitan city and people from neighboring states come here looking for job. Often they are cheated or exploited and sometime even abused. Many a times it happens that these people do not have money to go back to their places. We take packed food and clothes to stations and distribute the same to people who are in need. Sometime people are not paid money for the work and a result they find it difficult to go back to their respective places. In this situation, we provide financial help to people and assist them to reach home safely.
To carry on this work we totally rely on divine providence and the help from likeminded people who have love for poor, suffering and destitute. We used to get local help from people which used to cover up some of our expenditures. Right now, the local help also has dwindled to a great extent.
